Temperature blanket 2025
Actually mine is a 365-day project! Since January 1st I have been recording each day’s minimum and maximum temperature in my home town Oban, Scotland in stranded colourwork knitting. I’m knitting in real time - the day’s temperatures on that day. Posting weekly updates on Instagram and Facebook.
Intention: To become more aware of climate change in my own location. Working on this project for about an hour every day for a full year is becoming a daily practice in grounding myself.

100 Wee Birdies
A papercut of a Scottish bird every day, all cut from one single piece of paper to end up with a flock of 100 wee birdies sitting in a tree.
Intention: To explore an aspect of Scottish wildlife I'd love to know more about while creating a piece of art to celebrate it.

Intention: I intend to walk along the river Tweed, photograph areas, gather What3Words and write haiku using the three words.

Want Less, Need Less
This project is a response to my voracious consumerism in the face of consumption as an existential threat. Everyday, for a hundred days I'll choose from my own photographs of landscapes, possessions and selfies and blend them seamlessly into a surreal digital collage spotlighting my role or impact as a consumer. Each collage I make will be framed in one of five colours, coded to match the steps in a version of (there are many versions) Maslow's Hierarchy of Need. My colour choice each day will be a visceral reaction to where I feel the topic of that day's collage sits on Maslow's Hierarchy. My overall intention over 100 days is to build a visual documentary, presenting through the medium of the surreal, a contrived hierarchy of my own needs and wants that ultimately questions my choices and role as a consumer. I hope the project will resonate with others and prompt thoughts of, Is this wanted? Or, is it necessary? #WantLessNeedLess
Intention: I intend using this project to playfully explore and spotlight where my perceptions of need, which are really only wants, lie. To explore my role and impacts as a voracious consumer. This should also motivate me to use my critical skills while enhancing my photography, collage and digital skills practise. And, at the same time have fun engaging with other 100 dayers and their work!

More from the garden and beyond
Having recently started monoprinting using different techniques, I plan to build on last year’s project where I drew flowers using ink and wash. This time I will take inspiration from my garden and nearby - those everyday plants and create prints and see what emerges.
Intention: For practice and to help improve my printing and drawing, and practice printmaking but also to be open to what appears & be surprised.

Connecting again in nature
I’ve been studying foundation art and design at college this past year. It’s been brilliant. However, I’ve missed being outside and being part of nature. This project will be like coming home and I can’t wait.
Intention: Gently building my curiosity around my place in nature and advancing my skills

Abstracting organic forms
During an open studio course at GSA this year I discovered how much I enjoyed creating abstract images from objects and noticed due to my background that organic and cellular forms crept in even when not directly related to the object in front of me. I hope to find these abstract forms in more everyday objects, museum pieces, and things that I pass by in daily life. Using all types of media depending on time available and opportunity. Some images may become part of larger pieces.
Intention: I hope to further explore what kind of art I enjoy making, to try not to become too fixed on what the perfect outcome should be when I start a piece and experiment more. And obviously to have fun!

I am a calligrapher and I love to write ampersands. I will write 1 ampersand a day using some special paints I inherited from a friend. There are 50 pots of paint, so I'll do 2 ampersands with each paint color. I'll be working on 2" squares of 140# CP watercolor paper and will assemble the 100 ampersands for framing when I'm finished.
Intention: I want to fully explore ALL the possibilities for writing ampersands. It is a joy to participate in the project and I love it so much!!!

Ember & Thread: Awakening in Tapestry
I’ll be completing a handwoven tapestry inspired by Phoebe Anna Traquair’s painting The Awakening. The piece is woven on wet spun linen warp using a 2-1 twill structure reminiscent of crewelwork, creating a richly textured ground. The weft includes my own handspun, naturally dyed wools from local fleece, as well as other natural fibres. I’ll be finishing the second panel, then adding embroidered details across both halves to bring depth and narrative into the surface. Finally, I’ll complete the finishing and mounting process to ready the piece for display. This project is both an homage to a visionary woman artist and a meditation on the power of slow, intentional making.
Intention: This project is about slow craft, transformation, and honouring the work of women artists through thread and time. I intend to explore novel uses of traditional techniques, expanding my skillset as an artist.

Five Sisters Shale Bings
As a Scottish artist deeply inspired by place and memory, I propose an abstract landscape series focused on the Five Sisters Shale Bings, a striking heritage site. Through a variety of media and approaches, including painting, mixed media, and digital exploration, I aim to capture the haunting beauty and layered history of this unique landscape. This project aligns with the 100 Days Scotland initiative, reflecting on Scotland’s industrial past and natural reclamation. By interpreting the Five Sisters through abstraction, I will invite viewers to engage emotionally and conceptually with this iconic site, creating a dialogue between heritage and contemporary expression. This work will contribute to ongoing conversations about place, identity, and cultural memory in Scotland.
Intention: To capture the Five sisters Shale Bings, which is a National heritage site, every day for 100 days.

100 Days Outside in Scotland
For this year’s project, I’m spending three hours outside every day. Time looking at a screen doesn’t count, but pretty much every other possible activity (walking, sketching, reading, painting, swimming, staring into space, etc) does. I estimate that I currently spend an average of between one and two hours outside per day, so this project will double that. I’ll document my project with written notes, photos, and drawings. I’m looking forward to coming up with creative ways to pass this time.
Intention: My intention is to give myself permission to spend more time outside doing nice things. My default place to be is at home, in my flat, which is also my workplace. There’s a voice in my head that says home is where I ‘should’ be, and that I don’t have time for long walks or other such frivolities out in the world, at least not every day. I want to challenge that voice. What if I have plenty of time to be outside? What if it is, in fact, where I 'should' be? Being outside is good for you, after all. How might my life be better if I spent at least three hours outside every single day?
